GP & BP used $90 of the initial $100 seed money from the Kingdom Assignment project to help gather together and print the recipes they, and other members of the Noranda Church Craft Group, had accumulated over the years - and put them together in a book raising $384. A garage sale was also arranged and $102 was collected. With the proceeds, the ladies purchase Baby Wear from Bridge Op Shop – Eden Hill, where all proceeds go to Africa for water wells. The Baby Wear was then taken to Osborne Park Hospital which will then be distributed to needy families (so the money was used TWICE). The remaining money has been donated to the Woodvale VIEW Club (Voice Interests & Education of Women - links here and here) View supports the mission of The Smith Family caring for disadvantaged families and for needy children in school.
I was lead to help out Change or Change (a charity fundraiser being run at my High School) when I found out it was to help Radio Lollipop (after asking my teacher what its all about). Now this got me thinking about my best mate's younger sister - who was diagnosed with childhood leukaemia at the age of seven. She has spent long periods of time over the last few years in the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children - (I thought my friend's sister) talked about Radio Lollipop and how much fun it was to watch. So I gave my KA money to Change for Change to brighten up the lives of the kids at PMH. My teacher was blown away by the donation and rang my Mum to make sure I had permission to give this money, Mum explained about the KA and about my friend, he was really thankful that we have a church that cares and trusts its people to help out others like this. Was sitting with some friends enjoying a coffee after our Aero Dance class, when a couple of the netball ladies came by selling chocolates. When we enquired about where the funds were going too, they shared a story about a friend of theirs (an umpire at the Churches of Christ Rec Cntr in Warwick link). Their friend's sister (who lived in NZ) had died, leaving five children into her custody - in addition to her existing 2 children. Her family had grown from two to seven children and these beautiful ladies wanted to help their friend with christmas presents for all the children. So after reading the Kingdom Assignment book and then being trusted with the money I chose to gift to this most caring, compassionate woman and her family. I wanted to match the $100 with my own money so I decided to save by not purchasing any extras for myself (eg when I had a hair cut no colour, instead of going out for coffee with friends I'd invite them over to my house for one instead). Once I had saved and matched the KA money I bought a $200 gift card from Kmart and donated it to this most worthy cause.
When entrusted with $100 each for
the Lord’s work, my husband and I prayed about how best to use this
money. We heard about the “Homeless Connect” day being held in the city
of Perth and read about the need for donations of toiletries, underwear,
etc. and the need for volunteers to help out on the day. We felt that
this was where the Lord would have us spend his money. So by keeping
our eyes open for ‘specials’ we were able to purchase an amazing number
of toiletry items as well as men’s underwear, to distribute to the many
in our city who have no place to call home.
My place of employment gave me a day off work so that I could volunteer my time to help out on the day of the event. The ‘homeless’ had an opportunity to have a shower, hair cut, lovely meal, entertainment, choice of clothing, access to medical, employment and accommodation assistance and many other things, all completely FREE of charge. Homeless Connect Day Website link It was quite an amazing day and I gained an appreciation of the difficulties that some people in our society face, and in particular one young man who I spent a considerable amount of time with, guiding him in his search for accommodation and employment. He was so appreciative of the assistance he received and felt that his future was now a little brighter. I came away feeling like I had done something worthwhile to show the love of our Lord to others.
Having received $100 from our church, I had to find a way to increase it for God's glory & kingdom. Being interested in art I decided to try and sell some of my paintings. From that investment I made $600 and was able to purchase the following for COCOA (Church of Christ Overseas Aid) - 2 boxes of chickens, 1 bag of maize for the family, 2 blankets, 2 beds, $100 for hospital equipment and $100 towards a cow. May God bless these things. LC
